HACKNEY WICKED
8th of August, Private View: 9pm - midnight.
Exhibition continues through to the 5th of Sept. Open Thurs.- Sun. By appointement only.
Flickering through time,
we trace and paste ourselves
into the history of Hackney Wick.
The Verger's cottage sits comfortably on old church ground. Shrouded in a compelling local history, this site was the hottest rockers hang-out of the '60s; It's church sponsored motorcycle youth club (59 Club) attracted such glamorous patronage as Cliff Richard and Elizabeth Taylor, and was first to screen the banned biker flick "The Wild One" (starring Marlon Brando- "Hey, Johnny, What are you rebelling against?...Whaddya got?"). A stone's throw away from The Verger's Cottage is the scene of the first railway murder. In 1864 Franz Muller murdered Thomas Briggs to cash in on his jewels in an attempt to move to America. Present day: THE RESIDENCE, a home "Where The Art Is"(-The London Paper, Jan/08).
"HACKNEY WICKED" is set to transform the cottage into an open-house museum of revised history. Featuring on and off-site attractions, it's a red carpet affair and starry invite to an area re-awakening from a twinkling past.
